This product is Certainteed Symphony Slate. We installed
this material for a customer after cost options ruled out
real slate tile. This looks and feels like the real thing.
The underlayment is GAF Liberty Base. It's a little thicker
than regular Ice Shield.
When a new roof is installed with drip-edge to
all eaves, this sets up the front line to a strong
roof. The Ice & Water Shield will seal on top of
the drip-edge, the starter shingle on top of the
ice shield, then the shingle. This will help to
prevent over-flowing gutters and Ice damming.
Sometimes animals eat through wood and enter the
attic from a roof with no drip-edge. This metal
is animal-proof.
There are a few reasons why these shingles flew off of this house:
This photo shows GAF Timbertex Hip & Ridge Capping.
This heavy duty cap is the finishing touch on a new roof.
Contractors will often install a thinner and cheaper
material if not specific in a written proposal.
Timbertex is designed fit with Cobra ridge venting.
Residential homes deserve a clean, safe choice
when replacing a flat roof. This 2-ply self
adhering GAF Liberty System is applied with
adhesive. If a low slope roof is totally flat
I choose to use EPDM Rubber Roof System. It's
installed with adhesives onto insulation board.
The ten foot wide rolls allow for little to no
seams. My competition tends to offer a torch
down roof applied with a 1500 degree propane
torch. If your house is made of wood, you might
want to double check your homeowner's insurance
policy. Men with blow torches are not covered
for setting fires.
These people hired based on price....Fire bad
The Timberline shingle is the shingle of choice among
homeowners. All colors are always in stock. We install
the style of shingle on small beach cottages, as well as mansions.

There are a lot of homes on Long Island that currently
have slate. When slate is not worth repairing (why
spend money on slate repair when the truth is: the slate
has become porous, and just not doing its job of keeping
your house water tight) This Camelot shingle is a
complimentary, and cost effective choice.

This diagram is from the GAF installation guide book.
It points out that you must install Ice shield at least 24
inches past the warm wall. Safe Choice Roof Systems
installs six feet up from eaves.
We can drive down any block in any neighborhood
on Long Island and you will see ridge vents and attic
fans on the same roof. Didn't any of these contractors
read this page?
Professional work area, hard hats, six feet of ice-shield.
Every new roof installation includes replacement of chimney flashing made of 16oz copper.
Poor ventilation and shaded areas of a roof can cause heavy unsightly algae and mildew growth. This will shorten shingle longevity.
Birds eye view.
Animals ( raccoons, squirrels, sometimes birds) seem to be able to smell wet or rotted wood.
This is a direct indicator that there are more than roof problems to worry about.
When water has leaked enough times, the wood can disintegrate and "sink in" leaving a visible dip in roof.
When a contractor is looking to save money on their material cost, this guy must have been color-blind, or maybe the homeowner was. This goes on daily with corner cutters. Safe Choice Roof Systems uses TIMBERTEX HIP & RIDGE CAP, not only does it match the shingle color identically, it's the finishing touch on a quality job. As a consumer, you must demand for nothing less!
We installed this shingle for the homeowner who lived near the water in Freeport. He told us until he had us install the GAF Grand Canyon Shingle, he would lose shingles every winter.... Not anymore
By the end of a work day, if you put your hand over the vent area, you will feel the heat rising out of the cobra vent.
Notice how the Weather watch ice & water shield is applied six feet up from the eaves. Expect Safe Choice to install your roof the same way.... correctly.
The only "unknown" variable when replacing a roof, is rotted wood under the shingles. When the roof is estimated, it was walked on to check for soft spots. This gives us and you an idea of what to expect with if any, wood deck replacement. Some plywood will be included with the job, but an additional charge per board of plywood will be discussed and added if additional wood is needed.
This professional job was installed by the job foreman Daniel.
Setting up the job from a safety and protection approach is a daily system procedure at Safe Choice.
This roof replacement was a two phase project. Under the asphalt shingles was cedar shake shingles. When all layers are removed, all new 3/4" plywood is installed to create a roof-deck. We choose to use 3/4" plywood, it strengthens the structure of the house and roofing nails have a thicker wood to nail into. If someone offers 1/2" plywood, they are telling you something about their company. 1. Not experienced with cedar removal. 2. Corner cutting with the plywood thickness will make plywood bow between the 22" on center rafters.

Drip-edge on all eaves.
In the old days valleys were a vulnerable to leaf build-up, Ice dams, leakage. When Ice Shield is installed to the valley, it is an effective way to prevent those old valley problems.

This shingle is worn through and the wood deck is exposed.

This flat roof project included replacing 3 old pitched roof skylight models with new flat roof models. Flat copper flashings, and a higher riser on frame base.
Along with a great photo of our skylight work, the wall transition (where flat roof meets siding wall). is what I wanted to point out.
Working in September is a great refreshing change with the cool morning, and not so hot afternoons.
Also check out the uniform installation process.
